BASIC INFORMATION
Tokyo Midtown Design Hub (Participating Organizations: Japan Institute of Design Promotion, Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc., Musashino Art University Design Lounge) proudly presents an exhibition featuring about 200 selected design works from the Musashino Art University Museum & Library Collection. The exhibition features items including posters, chairs, magazines, industrial products, and toys of the 1950s to the 1970s, which represent the flourishing design movement in the postwar period.
The poster and magazine designs prominently reflect the social recognition of graphic design as not only a form of advertisement but also as a means of self-expression for designers, and a way to deliver social and cultural messages. This exhibition traces the birth and growth of design education supporting this development, and the dynamic movement of new industries and product designs arising from the novel materials and technology of the time. It provides an opportunity to look back at this historic time period from a social and design education perspective to re-think the current relation between society and design education.
